As I said, in my own Substack, The Culture Recovery Journals, I’m not trying to sketch out big picture scenarios or solutions for our society: I leave that to those who do it better. One of those people is N.S. Lyons of The Upheaval, one of the first Substacks I ever subscribed to. Not only does he like my favorite novel ever, That Hideous Strength, but he published an important diagnosis of our world’s situation this past August, The China Convergence.
After reading it aloud to my husband, I decided to do an audio version of it, with the author’s permission, since as he says in the article, it’s an important piece, even crucial, for understanding just what is going on in the world today and why so many of our solutions only scratch the surface of the problem.
This recording is just over 3.5 hours long, but it’s worth hearing in its entirety. It took me about three months of recording and editing every Tuesday morning (the only window where my free time coincided with a mostly silent house) but it’s done.
