I love your thoughts on these aspects of dress. The ornamentation idea brought to mind a short quote I saw on a social media post about traditional vs. modern architecture and style. It suggested that modernism was a “death of detail.” And I think we see that now. Too few of us appreciate or know how to incorporate the details that made traditional clothing beautiful. Embroidery and lacework on the garments themselves, but also layering of jewelry, scarves, etc. over our base clothing is a lost art.

True! I discuss that a bit more in today’s article and I think you’re on something. I think it’s interesting that the mother of Therese of Lisieux supported the entire family by her lacemaking.

This was so interesting! I’d be interested if you know anything about “modern” (or at least modernly available) corsets. I’m currently pregnant with my 3rd and would love the postpartum support and posture assistance that I know a corset would provide.

They were "in" a few seasons ago, so it's possible to find some quality ones online. The one pictured in the photo above we ordered for a fashion show and it was really a great one with a good fit. During my years of pregnancy, I never heard much about belly-binding until I was pregnant with my last two--and then it was kind of too late. So younger moms would know more than I do.

Here's a link to the one we ordered on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Charmian-Victorian-Vintage-Brocade-Overbust/dp/B0BG5BFYJM/
